Is there a Task Manager for SQL Server 2008 and on? One way to see what SQL Server is doing, kill fugitive questions, etc ...

You should show the processes running. Delete the task

Note, this view ( master.dbo.sysprocesses ) as backward view So, this may not be in the future SQL release.
